Courses

Although this is a basic introduction to Paperweight Making and Glass Blowing, from the very start, the emphasis will be on the participant immediately designing, gathering and working the glass, colouring and shaping it, while the practical and theoretical details will be explained. By the end of the day you will have created your own individual 'masterpieces' to take home.

The courses are held mostly at weekends but other days are available on application. We teach to the ratio of 4 students to 1 instructor which gives ample time to achieve the days tasks. The courses run from 9.30 until 4.30, with a break for lunch, there are drinks available all day.

1 Day Course

During the day you will learn how to design your own paperweights, gather the molten glass from the furnace, colour and shape it and place in the kiln for cooling. You will be introduced to the tools and methods required to create your own unique pieces. You should also achieve 1 basic blown shape, i.e. a small bowl, vase, cup etc.

2 Day Course

Having completed the first day as above, you will continue working with the glass and improve your blowing, shaping and design skills.  If you prefer to continue making the solid pieces, paperweights, you may do so.
